The estate

Cayuse Vineyards began when Christophe Baron, a young vigneron from Champagne, saw a field of cobblestones in the Walla Walla Valley and recognized what everyone else had overlooked: ground as stony as Châteauneuf-du-Pape's. Planting directly into the ancient riverbed of what is now the Rocks District, and farming biodynamically from the start, he coaxed Syrah of wild, savory intensity from the stones — smoked meat, iodine and crushed flowers, a profile unlike anything else in America. Bottlings like Bionic Frog have become allocation-list legends, selling out years ahead. Cayuse is American wine at its most singular.
