The estate

The heart on Calon-Ségur's label is Bordeaux's oldest love note: the eighteenth-century Marquis de Ségur, who owned Lafite and Latour, declared that his heart stayed at Calon. The northernmost classified growth of the Médoc, this Saint-Estèphe Third Growth changed hands in 2012 after generations of family ownership, and the investment since — wholesale replanting, a rising Cabernet share, a rebuilt cellar — has pushed it into the appellation's front rank. The modern Calon pairs Saint-Estèphe's tannic spine with a plush, dark-fruited core that few recent vintages have failed to deliver.
