The estate

D'Issan is Margaux at its most storybook: a moated seventeenth-century château whose motto — for the tables of kings and the altars of gods — is earned by legend, its wine said to have been served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine. The Cruse family has owned it since 1945, with Emmanuel Cruse running the estate today and Jacky Lorenzetti a partner since 2013. The enclosed vineyard by the château, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on classic Margaux gravel, produces a third growth of perfume and polish: violets, red currant, and fine-grained tannin in the appellation's seductive register rather than its sterner one. Recent decades of reinvestment in vineyard and cellar have pushed d'Issan comfortably back among Margaux's leaders.
