Château Haut-Batailley

Haut-Batailley is the smaller half of an estate divided in 1942, when the Borie family split Batailley between two branches; the Haut share carried its fifth-growth rank through seventy-five years of quietly classical, gently understated Pauillac. Its modern era opened in 2017, when the Cazes family of Lynch-Bages bought the property and set about the full treatment: replanting, a re-equipped cellar, a new second wine, and the commercial reach of one of Pauillac's best-run houses. The vineyard's forty-odd hectares sit on the southern gravels of the Bages plateau, and recent vintages show the change — deeper fruit, firmer frame, Pauillac cedar intact. Among classified Pauillacs it remains one of the few still priced for discovery.
