The estate
The first great name travelers meet on the road north from Bordeaux, Château La Lagune holds some 80 hectares of fine gravel in the southern Haut-Médoc, ranked a Third Growth in 1855. Under Caroline Frey, who took charge of winemaking in 2004, the estate converted to organic and then biodynamic farming, and the wine has gained in perfume what it always had in structure: a Médoc of violets, cool black fruit, and quietly insistent tannin, generous enough young yet built to a two-decade horizon.
