The estate

Château L'Evangile occupies the kind of address that makes tasters lean in: the southeastern edge of Pomerol's plateau, with Pétrus for a neighbor on one side and Cheval Blanc just across the appellation line on the other. Owned since 1990 by the Rothschilds of Lafite, the estate blends Merlot from blue clay and gravel with a meaningful share of Cabernet Franc, producing a Pomerol of velvet depth threaded with violets and dark mineral cool. Investment in the vineyard and cellar has only sharpened its focus in recent vintages. Blason de L'Evangile offers the house perfume on an earlier-drinking frame.
