The estate

CVNE — the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España — has been a pillar of Rioja since 1879, still guided by descendants of the founding Real de Asúa brothers from its historic cellars in Haro's station quarter. Its houses each keep a distinct voice: Imperial, the stately classicist whose 2004 Gran Reserva was named Wine Spectator's wine of the year; Viña Real, rounder and silkier from Alavesa fruit; and Contino, one of Rioja's first single-estate wines. Across all of them runs the CVNE thread — traditional elegance, American and French oak in careful measure, and Gran Reservas built to outlive their buyers.
