The estate

El Enemigo — "the enemy" — is the personal project of Alejandro Vigil, longtime chief winemaker at Catena Zapata, and Adrianna Catena, historian daughter of Nicolás Catena. From vineyards in Gualtallary and the old-vine districts of eastern Mendoza, the Aleanna winery builds wines around Cabernet Franc and Malbec that trade power for tension: taut, chalky, deeply savory expressions capped by the single-vineyard Gran Enemigo series, whose Chacayes bottling earned Argentina some of its first perfect scores. The name honors the last adversary any winemaker faces — one's own doubt.
