Fratelli Alessandria

Fratelli Alessandria has been making wine in Verduno since the nineteenth century, and no estate is more closely identified with the commune's crown jewel: Monvigliero, the cru whose Barolos trade power for an almost Burgundian perfume. The family's traditional cellar work — patient macerations, large casks — suits Verduno's style perfectly, yielding wines of rose-petal aromatics, fine tannin and quiet persistence. Alongside its Barolos, the house is also a standard-bearer for Pelaverga, the peppery, pale-red variety that survives almost nowhere but Verduno, and which has become a cult favorite among sommeliers.
