Gaja
The estate

Gaja is the name that carried Piedmont onto the world stage. From Barbaresco, where the family has made wine since 1859, Angelo Gaja spent half a century shattering conventions — French barriques, international prices, single crus like Sorì San Lorenzo, Sorì Tildin and Costa Russi that proved Nebbiolo could command the same reverence as grand cru Burgundy. The house later reached into Barolo with Sperss and Conteisa, then beyond Piedmont to Bolgheri's Ca'Marcanda, Montalcino's Pieve Santa Restituta and the slopes of Etna. Now guided by the fifth generation — Gaia, Rossana and Giovanni — the wines remain what they have always been: proud, polished and unmistakably Gaja.
