Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is inseparable from one piece of land: Monprivato, the chalk-white hillside in Castiglione Falletto that the family has assembled almost in its entirety since 1904. From a cool cellar in a former ice house at Monchiero, Mauro Mascarello raises it the traditional way — long macerations, old casks, releases held back until the wine is ready to speak — and in the best years selects old-vine fruit for the Ca' d'Morissio Riserva. Monprivato's signature is unmistakable: pale color, high perfume, and a silken austerity that unwinds over decades into one of Barolo's most haunting wines.
