The estate

E. Guigal is the house that made Côte-Rôtie world-famous. Founded at Ampuis in 1946 by Etienne Guigal and raised to glory by his son Marcel, the firm farms the steep terraced slopes above the Rhône and crowns its range with the three legendary La-Las — La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque — single-vineyard Syrahs aged some forty-two months in new oak that collect perfect scores like ordinary wines collect dust. Below them stretch the Château d'Ampuis bottling, superb Hermitage and Condrieu, and a Côtes du Rhône blend that may be the most reliable value in French wine. Ambition at every price is the Guigal way.
