Massolino

Massolino has farmed the hills of Serralunga d'Alba since 1896, and the family's cellars sit in the village itself, beneath the castle. The crus read like a roll call of Serralunga's best: Margheria, Parafada, Parussi, and above all Vigna Rionda, source of a riserva that stands with the greatest traditional Barolo made anywhere. The style is classical without dogma — long macerations and large Slavonian oak casks preserve the iron-and-tar sternness Serralunga is prized for, while clean, precise cellar work keeps the fruit luminous. Four generations in, the estate remains family-run, and its Baroli deliver the appellation's most structured terroir with unusual consistency from the village bottling up to the crus.
