Produttori del Barbaresco is the finest cooperative in the world of wine, and no one who tastes seriously disputes it. Refounded in 1958 on roots that reach back to 1894, it unites around fifty growing families in the village of Barbaresco, farming nothing but Nebbiolo. In lesser years everything goes into the village blend; in great ones the co-op releases nine single-cru Riservas — Rabajà, Asili, Montestefano, Ovello and their siblings — that stand beside Barbaresco's most celebrated private estates at a fraction of the price. Traditional, transparent and astonishingly consistent, it is the reference point for the appellation itself.
