From the Pergentsknopp, the 2019 Scharzhofberger P Riesling GG opens very intense and flinty on the lemon-scented nose, and it is even more straight and challenging than the generic Scharzhofberger, with lemon leaf aromas and vulnerable stony aromas of wet crushed slate and quartzite. Piquant and fresh on the palate, this is a lean, tight, dry, grippy and persistently salty but also dense and juicy Pergentsknopp that lacks a couple of years of bottle age to shine fully bright, but this is a melting pot with loads of perfectly ripe Riesling grapes.
The acidity is fresh and piquant yet ripe, and the textural composition is still more edgy and rough compared to the generic Scharzhofberger. However, this makes 2019 a tight, tensioned, fresh, and even juicy "P", whose true potential will be revealed only in 5-10 years. However, the finish is spectacularly long, refined, juicy and intense. To buy or not to buy? Certainly, yes, if you have the right storage capacity. However, I'd also buy the generic "Scharz" and drink it first.

This bold, ambitious wine has a serious tannin structure behind the quite delicate, white-peach and white-thorn aromas. The concentration is impressive and carries this daring style—so much potential.
