Tasting notes
Stuart Pigott · James Suckling · 95
A deep and spicy wine with a touch of anise. This is a great expression of Chateauneuf-du-Pape that marries traditional aromas with modern freshness to create a compelling whole. Excellent concentration and fine tannins on the full-bodied palate. Long, spicy and well-structured finish. A cuvee of 40% grenache, 35% syrah, 20% mourvedre and 5% cinsault. From organically grown grapes. Drink from release.

Deep ruby-hued and semi-opaque, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape offers spiced red and black fruits, leather, and peppery herbs in its aromatics. Based on 50% Grenache, 29% Mourvèdre, and 21% Syrah from galets roulés and sandy soils, it was partially destemmed and aged 18 months in a mix of foudre, barrels, and concrete. Medium-bodied, it has a beautifully concentrated, elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and a great finish. This balanced wine has the depth and structure to improve over the coming 4-5 years and drink brilliantly over the following decade.

Fresher and livelier in comparison to the 2022, the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Château la Nerthe reveals aromas of peonies, rose, flowers and dark cherries. Medium- to full-bodied, enveloping and elegant, it’s elegantly juicy with delicate tannins, concluding with a fresh, ethereal finish. This is a blend of 50% Grenache Noir, 29% Mourvèdre and 21% Syrah.
