Château Duhart-Milon — estate
The estate

Duhart-Milon is Lafite's neighbor and, since 1962, its sibling: the only other classified growth in the Domaines Barons de Rothschild fold, farmed and vinified by the same team. The vineyard — some seventy-six hectares on the Milon hillside west of Lafite, Pauillac's only fourth growth — was substantially replanted and restored after the Rothschild purchase, when years of neglect had reduced it to a fraction of its classified extent. The wine is Pauillac of classical proportion: Cabernet Sauvignon-led, cedar and graphite over firm dark fruit, slower to unfurl than its stablemate Carruades but rewarding the patience. For collectors it has long served as the discreet entry into the Lafite orbit, priced well inside the grand vin.
