The estate
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste has long been the insider's Pauillac. Classified a Fifth Growth in 1855, the estate has been in the hands of the Borie family since 1978, and its vineyard is a rarity in the Médoc: a single sweep of deep gravel surrounding the château on the Bages plateau. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the plantings, and the wine is Pauillac in its classic register — blackcurrant, cedar and graphite, built to age without ever losing its charm. Made in meaningful quantities and priced beneath its quality, "GPL" has earned a devotion among claret lovers that few classed growths can match. The second wine, Lacoste-Borie, offers an earlier-drinking introduction to the house style.
