The estate

Château Pichon Baron is the darker, more brooding half of the divided Pichon-Longueville estate. Its fairy-tale turreted château, built in 1851, fronts a core of magnificent gravel on the southern Pauillac plateau within sight of Latour — ground that gives the grand vin its Cabernet-driven depth of cassis, graphite and iron. Under AXA Millésimes ownership since 1987, and long directed by Christian Seely, the estate has pushed steadily back into the front rank of the "super seconds". Les Tourelles de Longueville and Les Griffons de Pichon Baron offer two earlier-drinking readings of the house style.
