The estate

From the small cellar of the Château de Chambolle-Musigny, Frédéric Mugnier — an engineer and airline pilot before he was a vigneron — makes some of Burgundy's most ethereal wines. His holdings read like a Chambolle dream: Musigny, Bonnes Mares, and Les Amoureuses, joined in 2004 by the returning Clos de la Maréchale monopole in Nuits-Saint-Georges. The style is the argument: infusion rather than extraction, perfume rather than power, wines so transparent they seem lit from within. Allocations are tiny, and the Musigny in particular ranks among the most coveted bottles in the world.
