Domaine Rossignol-Trapet

Rossignol-Trapet was born in 1990, when one of Gevrey-Chambertin's oldest domaines was divided between two branches of the Trapet family; the Rossignol side inherited a princely share, including parcels of Chambertin itself, Latricières-Chambertin, and Chapelle-Chambertin. Brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol converted the estate to biodynamics in the mid-2000s and farm some of the deepest old-vine holdings on the hill. The style favors transparency over force — whole-cluster inclusion in measure, modest new oak — so the wines read as Gevrey of the old school: dark cherry, earth, and rose over a spine that wants a decade. The Chambertin, from vines at the heart of the grand cru, is among the appellation's quiet bargains.
