G. D. Vajra

G.D. Vajra farms the heights above the town of Barolo, in the hamlet of Vergne, where some of the commune's highest vineyards give wines of striking perfume and lift. Aldo Vaira, who returned to the family land in the early 1970s and became one of the Langhe's early organic growers, built the estate's reputation on Bricco delle Viole — a Barolo of violets, red fruit and alpine freshness that ages beautifully — and the cellar's stained-glass windows have become an emblem of the house's blend of tradition and grace. The family's curiosity shows across the range, from benchmark Dolcetto and Barbera to a historic parcel of Riesling.
