The estate

Paul Jaboulet Aîné has been a pillar of the northern Rhône since 1834, and its flagship needs no introduction: Hermitage La Chapelle, named for the tiny chapel atop the hill, whose 1961 vintage remains one of the most celebrated wines ever made. Under the Frey family, owners since 2006, the house has renewed its vineyards and sharpened its farming, with Caroline Frey steering the estate toward organic and biodynamic practice. The range spans the whole river valley, from Cornas and Côte-Rôtie down to Châteauneuf, with the Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert a perennial proof that greatness in the Rhône need not be expensive.
