Domaine Faiveley, Corton Grand Cru, Clos des Cortons Faiveley 2015

I'm amazed! This is extremely fresh with orange zest and smoky notes, as well as intense cherry aromas. With its stunning concentration and vitality, this could wake the dead! A great and dynamic expression of this unique terroir that could be drunk now, but it also has a huge future ahead of it.

Impressively deep saturated red. Brooding aromas of black cherry, dark berries, licorice, minerals, rose petal and violet. Hugely rich, chewy wine with compelling sweetness and mineral verve to its flavors of black cherry, licorice and dark chocolate; totally mouthfilling without coming across as heavy, with its incipient soil tones currently masked by totally ripe fruit. A monster of a Burgundy with the thickness and sheer extract to nicely carry its huge, sweet tannins, which saturate the front teeth and sides of the tongue. The finish builds inexorably. Fun to taste now but it would be a crime to drink this wine anytime soon. In fact, it shut down hard in the glass. From fruit picked during the first week of September, as in 2011 and 2007. (13.5% alcohol; 3.42 pH; 3.5 grams per liter acidity; 30.5 hectoliters per hectare produced)

The 2015 Corton Clos des Cortons is still very youthful on the nose, opening in the glass with notes of cherry and raspberry, nuances of roast squab and spice emerging with aeration. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with a lavish attack, ripe in profile but showing good acids and nice depth at the core. This Clos des Cortons has already digested all its new wood, and the raw materials are very impressive: the only missing ingredient is time.
