Domaine Michel Lafarge, Volnay Premier Cru, Clos des Chenes 2016

The 2016 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a lively bouquet of red and black cherries, violet, incense and light stony scents, all displaying ample concentration. This still feels quite youthful. The palate is medium-bodied, smooth and concentrated with more black fruit evident and rounded, malleable tannins. A slight caramel-like element on the finish renders it just a bit too sweet for my liking, but otherwise this is drinking beautifully right now.
