Château Cheval Blanc

Château Cheval Blanc occupies a frontier all its own: the gravel and clay where St-Émilion runs into Pomerol, planted against convention with a majority of Cabernet Franc alongside Merlot. From that ground comes a wine of paradox — full yet weightless, exotic yet fresh — and the 1947 remains perhaps the most mythologized bottle of the twentieth century. Owned by LVMH and the Frère family and long stewarded by Pierre Lurton, the estate added an architectural landmark in 2011 with Christian de Portzamparc's grass-roofed cellar. Le Petit Cheval, red and white, extends one of Bordeaux's most singular signatures.
