The estate
Vieux Château Certan is Pomerol's quiet aristocrat. Its 14 hectares of clay and gravel adjoin Petrus at the plateau's crown, yet the wine could not be more different: where its neighbor is monumental Merlot, VCC leans on old-vine Cabernet Franc for a Pomerol of fragrance, freshness, and Burgundian carry. The Thienpont family has owned the estate since 1924, and under Alexandre Thienpont — now alongside his son Guillaume — it has produced a run of wines since 2009 that many rank with the finest in all Bordeaux.
