The estate

M. Chapoutier has stood at Tain-l'Hermitage, at the foot of the great hill of Hermitage, since 1808 — but it was Michel Chapoutier's arrival in 1990 that transformed a respected house into one of the Rhône's most dynamic forces. An early and vocal convert to biodynamic farming, he pushed the domaine toward radical expressions of place, above all the Sélections Parcellaires: tiny single-parcel bottlings of Hermitage such as Le Pavillon, Le Méal and L'Ermite that rank with the rarest wines of France. The house spans both ends of the Rhône and beyond, and every label has carried braille since 1996 — a Chapoutier signature as recognizable as the wines themselves.
